A variant spelling of Khosro, the name of two Sassanian rulers (the first from 531-579 AD, the second 591-628 ) The first oversaw a time of great prosperity for the Sassanids. He formalized the government bureaucracy, oversaw formidable building projects, was a great patron of the arts, and so intimidated the Byzantine Empire that he received tribute from Justinian. This passage, however probably alludes to the second Khosro, who is most remembered primarily for the "wasteful splendor and lavishness of his court." [1] "Khosroo" is still used as a Persian first name today.
